so that you reach your goals more easily.  If you are not yet sure of your goals I will work with you to discover what it is that your heart is really seeking.  (As the song says, 'If you don't have a dream, how you gonna have a dream come true?")

I do not judge.  I believe that we all do the best we can with the tools and abilities that we think we have - but I love to help my clients to become aware of abilities they do not know they have, and to acquire the tools they need for future success.

In the midst of the myriad pulls, pushes, and pressures that make focus difficult, I help clients to clarify where they want to put their time and energy.

Probably of even more use to most of my clients is the fact that I have lived a very wide range of experiences, of ups and downs, and of changes.  I am at home with many different kinds of people, and am familiar with many, many of the problems that beset us all.  I have faced many of them myself.

Recently I asked one of my clients how she would describe me as her coach, and she gave me the following list:

"Superb listener
Extremely intuitive
Creative
Very thoughtful
Articulate
Motivating
Empowering"

Background and experience

I have run my own motivational and personal growth business, led seminars, workshops, and adult education classes in Goal Setting, Personal Effectiveness, Creativity, and Time Management, and much more.  I have worked with business executives, sales people, new coaches, home-based business people, welfare mothers, anyone who wanted to improve their quality of life.  While a graduate student I also taught many college courses, from Introduction to Psychology to Social Psychology, Creativity, Personality, and Motivation, to, yes, even Introductory Statistics!

A skilled communicator, I have written over 60 nonfiction articles published in magazines and local newspapers, and am author of one nonfiction book, highly praised for its presentation of scientific and technical material in terms comprehensible to the non-scientist.  You can find information about my newsletters and my numerousTop Ten lists and Coaching Tips elsewhere on this site.

I have also been a counselor, therapist, and then Department Director in the field of drug and alcohol addiction, working in both residential and outpatient settings.  In this arena I still teach college courses relating to addictions counseling.

I am or have been a member of many organizations, including the International Coach Federation, Toastmasters International, Mensa, the Parapsychological Association, The National Association of Alcoholism & Drug Abuse Counselors, Al-Anon, Greater Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce, The National Association for Female Executives, The Rochester Women's Network and Business Networking International.

On my way to becoming a coach I registered as a CoachU student in 1996, graduated in 1998, and became a CoachU Certified Graduate in 2001.  After coaching part-time for three years I became a full-time coach in February 2000 and have never looked back!  I am also a member of the International Coach Federation, the foremost professional organization in the field.

(However, lest anyone think that having a graduate degree assures that life will be easy, that I might not understand their problems, I should add that I have left a lot of stuff out.  As just one of many examples, I do know what it is to work two four-hours-each temporary jobs every day so as to keep food on the table, while at the same time doing three hours a day of volunteer work so as to gain experience in the area in which I wanted to work.  It worked, but in the interim I became expert at eating lunch and dinner while driving from one end of the county to the other and back, since all three places were at opposite ends of the community.)
